How to Treat Eczema

Loading...

First line defence treatment for eczema is usually steroids, prescribed at various strengths by your doctor. Very few people with eczema have not used steroid creams to control their symptoms at some stage, either on prescription from their doctor or dermatologist.

However, long-term reliance and over-use of steroids for eczema has led to commonly prescribed steroid-based products becoming less effective over time as well as skin becoming more reactive when it withdraws from the steroids. This common scenario has resulted in an increasingly common and potentially more serious condition called ‘red skin syndrome’.

While some people try and seek alternatives to steroids, the majority of people follow standard advice and treatments from doctors and dermatologists who still predominantly encourage people with eczema to use steroid creams, lotions and gels to control their symptoms.
