Treatments for Flaky Skin

• Emollients - Emollients are extra rich moisturisers that create a  seal over the skin, which helps prevent moisture from evaporating. Sealing moisture into the skin will help prevent it from drying out so quickly.
• Stay hydrated - Drink plenty of water and herbal teas to ensure you stay hydrated.
• Protect your skin from harsh weather - Wear a high factor sunscreen designed fo sensitive skin in hot weather and reapply regularly. In cold and windy conditions, protect all skin from direct exposure to the elements.
• Avoid hot water - When washing, try only to use warm water and limit bath and shower time as these can remove essential oils from the skin. When you get out of the bath or shower, apply emollients and skin hydrating lotions immediately to slightly damp skin.
• Avoid skin care and cleaning products continuing harsh chemicals and perfumes - Cosmetics, soaps, and other products may contain harsh chemicals that irritate the skin and cause dryness and flakiness. Choosing mild hydrating soaps as well as selecting skincare products and cosmetics specially formulated for dry, flaky and sensitive skin can help soothe it and prevent reoccurrence.
• Use a humidifier - Humidifiers can keep air moist inside the home so the skin won't dry out.
• Wear soft, natural fibers - Choose clothes that are kind to your skin, such as soft cotton or silk. Make sure that clothes are loose-fitting and allow air to circulate so that your skin has a chance to breathe.
