What Causes Teenage Acne?

Loading...

Teens problem areas for acne are the face, chest and back, and these breakouts occur due to the overproduction of androgens during puberty which causes excess sebum (oil). Fortunately, teenagers have quicker cell turnover and more resilient skin when compared to adults, this means that teens recover faster from breakouts. As most teenagers acne is hormonally caused, after teenage years, acne tends to improve as hormones level off and no longer fuel breakouts.

Teen acne is typically characterised by breakouts in the T zone, which is between the eyes, forehead and the nose and tends to appear as individual blackheads, whiteheads or pustules.
